Memorial Day Weekend Recap

I never feel quite right when saying "Happy Memorial Day". It seems wrong and misfitting to wish happiness on a day meant to be solemn and reflective. And we did reflect and remember, but we also were happy. Happy and proud to show our son a nation full of heroes and bravery.

My parents came to visit and we had such an amazing weekend. Thanks for taking care of us so much, Mom and Dad! We love y'all.

I spy patriotism and a pack 'n play...yes, someone still sleeps in Mommy and Daddy's room. There's a list of reasons why, but I feel like "he's a small, sweet, snuggly baby" is justification enough.

Saturday morning we took this barefooted baby to feed some duckies. There are two lakes about a block from our house; we think, and hope, Bear will love this area when he gets a little bigger.

Saturday evening dinner at Heaven Cheesecake Factory...

first taste of whipped cream...naturally he was a big fan

New $6 Target sandals that happen to be really comfy. Does anyone else find it hard to leave Target without a new pair of shoes?

After dinner, we walked down to The Waterway and heard live music while Bear stared down some juggling clowns.

My Dad has started a tradition of picking up donuts the last morning of their visit...so Sunday morning he went and grabbed some blueberry cake donuts from a cute little shop, Snowflake Donuts. So, SO good.

We took this little rascal on his very first pool excursion...

and stopped to feed the ducks again on our trek to the pool.

post-pool treat...pound cake with whipped cream and strawberries

And one more look at our little sea turtle...he actually enjoyed the pool! Think he's going to be a water baby.

 Happy Hump Day!

Major Cutie

Bear's first Memorial Day weekend was a memorable one. My parents came down and treated us to dinner at Cheesecake Factory (all-time FAVE), Bear enjoyed his very first pool experience, and we soaked up the (very) warm weather with lots of walks and outside exploring with Daddy.

We'll have a recap of all that fun tomorrow, but for now, a few pictures we snapped of our little Major...

Hope your weekend was a special one!

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Happy, Happy Birthday to my beautiful Momma. My best friend, walking partner, and the sweetest person I know. She has done more for me than I could ever repay and the example she has given is one of pure love, nurturing, and unending support. Her patience is that of a saint (trust me, we've tested her...) and if I'm half the Momma to Bear that she's been to my brothers and me, I'll have done my job. I love you, Mom. Zach loves you. And Bear, well, he really loves you. :)

I also want to say a huge, HUGE thank you to all of our military, both past and present. As we celebrate our freedom and spirit this Memorial Day, may we more importantly remember the lives lost fighting so valiantly for those very freedoms we enjoy every day. There is no greater sacrifice. There should be no greater honor.
Let's hug some soldiers today.

A personal thank you to:
Clayton Brown, "Papaw Clayton" (RIP)- Army
Joe Mercer, "Papaw Joe"- Army
Eugene Fullwood, "Peepaw"- Air Force
Ken Ewing, "Uncle Kenneth"- Army, Air Force, Marines
Shane Mercer- Army
Ryan Mercer- Air Force
Though their lives weren't lost in duty, we are forever grateful for their service and willingness to defend our nation.

Enjoy some cake, Mom. And be very proud of the brave sons you raised.

Surprise Party Part 2

Zach's 30th surprise party was last Saturday and we had a "totally tubular time" celebrating 80's style! First recap here.

(the fan was blowing the banner...promise it looked neater than this! :) )

Zach's Mom brought her three day old pet deer, Willow. (Willow passed away yesterday- RIP sweet girl!)

We finished off the night with dinner at Rajin Cajin...overall the weekend was a big success!

A HUGE thank you to all our wonderful friends and family that came out to help us celebrate 30 years of this rascally boy. He loves you all.

Surprise Party Part 1

Last weekend, Zach turned the big three-oh and we threw a surprise party in his honor. Many of our sweet friends and family came out to celebrate thirty years of Zach, and he was thrilled. Not entirely surprised, but thrilled. (Note to self: Don't make three trips to the party supply store the week of someone's birthday in the age of online banking.)

Zach's Dad, "Squadboard", is the baby whisperer

The man of the hour...coming around the corner to see everyone in the backyard

"Did you know?"
"Sorta..."

Grammy and Bear

The party was 80's themed since Z was born in '83.

Second half of the recap coming soon!

Happy Hump Day, y'all!
