DIY Felt Flowers

As a connoisseur of all things girly, I have been on the hunt for a good tutorial on multi-purpose fabric flowers. I finally found the motherload here on The Fickle Pickle. I was so thrilled with how easy they are to assemble, not to mention inexpensive. I got all the supplies for $8 at Michaels; each flower costs less than 50 cents to make!

You will need:
precut felt squares
scissors
drinking glass
buttons (I used decorative brads)
hot glue gun
pins or hair clips
supplies from Michaels
Using a drinking glass, trace 6 circles on a felt square. Cut them out, making sure to cut just inside of the pen line so it won't show on your flower (wish I had known that little tip on my first trial). Also cut one smaller circle to use as your base, about half the size of the others (this doesn't have to be perfect...it won't show).
Take a circle, fold it in half. Fold one corner up and one back to make an 'S' as shown. Secure the inside tip on each side with glue.
Glue your triangles to the base one at a time, making sure they are close together.
Once they are all secured, fluff up the petals.
Using your glue gun, stick a pretty button (or brad) into the center of your masterpiece.
Attach whatever you'd like to the back with hot glue. I used hair clips but pins would work great too. The options are endless!
Sittin' pretty in our new little basket

Thrifty Thursday

Thrifting is seriously addicting. I've never tried cocaine (you can sleep at night now, Mom) but I imagine that high being similar to the feeling I get when scoring a $1 dress (that's right, one dolla) at a local thrift shop. So today, I got high.

Really high.

I have had a recent basket obsession; they are just so darn practical. I'm for anything you can throw junk in and it looks somewhat tidy. Snagged this basket for a whole $1.50.

My grandmother on my dad's side, Nana, is quite the thrifter as well. I look forward to Fredericksburg visits not only for her amazing plum jelly but also for the stacks of magazines she sends me home with, all of which she gets for 25 cents each at her local thrift shop. Today was a major breakthrough. I can now simply focus on Nana's plum jelly because I discovered my own array of 25 cent magazines. Sure, they're a few months old...but for a quarter each I think I can manage.

Just now noticing the Hersey's box in the background and I'm intrigued....

I'm not usually into the whole mirror-picture-taking-thing but today I gave it a try. I must admit I felt slightly rebellious, as if somehow snapping pictures of $3 skirts would get me in trouble with the store security. But then I realized thrift stores don't have security. So I happily snapped away.

I'm loving the new maxi-skirt trend (as seen here
) and though I didn't make it home with one, I had fun flouncing around the dressing room.

This black silk blouse was a whopping $4 and for some reason unbeknownst to me, it didn't make it to the checkout line. I informed Zach we will be going back on Saturday. He loves me, so he agreed.

He also thought I looked like his third grade teacher. Gee.......thanks.

And because I can't ever keep a post on topic......
Our precious nephew Jagger's 1st birthday is coming up and we sent off his gift today (if you're reading this Ashlee, sorry I'm ruining the surprise). He is gonna make this t-shirt look good.

Aggieland Adventures

Our Labor Day weekend was very lacking in the labor department indeed. However, the A&M football team "did work, son" (did I just say that?). Zach was an extremely happy camper post-game, even treating me to midnight Mickey Dee's. Nothing quite says celebratory dinner like the Dollar Menu. We had a great time with Katy and Caleb, even if we did spend two hours locked in Katy's room playing The Song Game (i.e. someone thinks of a word such as "love" and you take turns coming up with a song that contains the word, thus filling your head with Beatles classics and singing "Can't Buy Me Love" through an entire college football game). We had fun.

I'll let the pictures tell the rest.

First College Station stop: Wings 'n More. Forget Disneyland, this is Zach's favorite place on earth.

Wooly mammoth, anyone?

Second stop: bowling alley. The X represents strikes that we (okay, I) were not making.

Someone had to come out a winner.... :)

cuties

Zach spent entirely too much on game cards and this is what we had to show for it. (Yes, had. Before the trip home)

Oh yeah, and a sticky rubber eyeball. We had that to show for it, too.

The eyeball provided lots of entertainment.

Next stop: Midnight Yell

After church on Sunday Zach made a beeline for Rudy's. We weren't mad. (Katy accurately labeled this "the creeper picture")

We just discovered this weekend that Zach and Katy have the same signature dimple, just on opposite cheeks. This was big news, people; Fullwood genes are strong.

Zach learned a new phrase this weekend...happy wife=happy life. Thankfully he makes me very, very happy.

Behold, Chef Fullwood

Katy introduced us to a little chunk of heaven on earth known as Yogurtland. You choose a flavor of yogurt and then fill it with toppings all by yourself. Seriously, heaven. We unleashed our inner six-year-old.

full smiles, even fuller tummies

Oh yeah, my husband chowed down with a Hello Kitty spoon. I cherished that moment for it will never, ever happen again.

This t-shirt got a lot of attention.

I cannot begin to express to you the magnitude of this picture. This is Zach's hero, Von Miller, who graduated from A&M last year and is now playing for the Denver Broncos. Supposedly our first son will be named Von Miller Fullwood....I'm not feeling it.

Almost game time!

Poor Katy had to crutch it up all day...but she was a trooper.

Zach got an autograph from Terrence Murphy, a 2005 graduate who went on to play for the Green Bay Packers but is now a real estate agent. Hook it up, yo.
Ready for some football! (and sweating...lots of sweating)

If you look reeeeeally hard, you might see Katy and Caleb in the top left corner. Zach had the binoculars out and we played Where's Waldo during warm-up.

The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band. My favorite part of the show. I mean game.

Okay, I cheated....this was taken after we got back to Houston. I just had to show some love to our favorite cornbread muffins in the whole world from Jason's Deli. Is your mouth watering yet?

Hope your Labor Day weekend was wonderful!

Crafty Coasters

Ever since our wedding, Zach and I have been feeling ultra crafty. We have found, however, that most crafts can unfortunately get a bit costly. When I stumbled upon these coasters on How About Orange (tutorial here), I knew we had to give them a try. Summertime has left us many a magazine laying around, just asking to be put to good use.

We are headed to College Station tomorrow for the first A&M football game of the year and to see Miss Katy; hope she enjoys her little surprise... and of course all the greasy food we are going to treat her to (heeellooooo Wings 'n More). Zach is bubbling over with excitement and it's just so cute. It has felt like Christmas Eve in Casa de Fullwood all week and I am finally beginning to embrace the thrills college football brings. So, against all better judgement, Gig 'em Ags! :)

Gettin' Thrifty With It

Hi friends!! I have a confession for you all. Last week I did a very bad thing... I went to Salvation Army without my husband. Let me tell you guys, he was NOT happy. After getting the puppy dog eyes and hearing heavy disappointment in his voice, I vowed to never again fly solo into our favorite junk haven. Even still, I had to share my finds with y'all. The cobalt blue and white vase you see above was $1.99 and I instantly fell in love. The little trinket box came all the way from the Amsterdam airport; I think they are buddies now.

The red heart bowl below was one of four I found for 99 cents each. Score! I love the scalloped edges and bright red color that will look perfect with our new Fiesta flatware (which is sadly still living in Sweetwater). Point of this post: Go thrift your little hearts out! There are many treasures to be found.
