Lately (part 2)

A few more instagram (aka beargram) pictures from this week...

Baby's First Halloween jammies have already been purchased, worn, and pooped stained. At least we got one picture. Who could get mad at these sweet feet?

It's official...Bear loves Freebirds. He gets it from his Momma!

Should I be upset that this came to our house by accident? 'Cause I'm not. Loved getting to enjoy Real Simple, a pumpkin spice latte, and some R&R while Bear napped Friday afternoon.

obsessed with the Johnny Cash forever stamps...are these acceptable for Bear's first birthday invitations?

Cheers to a beautiful fall weekend!

fun at The Woodlands Children's Museum

Bear goes to Jason's Deli for one reason only....ice cream!

This fall Must Have POPSUGAR package was on our doorstep last week and it seriously made my life. Rachel Zoe gold knot ring? Yes please. Need I say more? My sister-in-law, Scarlett, is seriously the most thoughtful person on the planet. She sure knows the way to a girl's heart!

We spent last Friday night on the patio, watching the rain pour down in sheets.

Saturday morning gameday breakfast...funfetti pancakes and sausage. Bear was a fan!

Wings 'n More with Aunt Katy before the A&M game

with John David Crow's statue before the game...Bear has his autograph (he just doesn't know it yet)

Someone made it through half the first quarter before crashing hard in Daddy's lap...

I scored these gold glitter pumpkins at Michael's for $3.50 each! Completely in love.

Guest Post: A Yummy (and healthy!) Cookie Recipe

Happy fall, y'all!
We are thrilled that autumn is finally upon us, even if it is still 90-something degrees in Houston.
Fall is the perfect time to start getting together recipes and baking some warm, yummy treats. Sabrina is here to share a recipe that I hope you'll all love! She had me at cookies...but wait, they're healthy, too? Sign us up!

I am a sucker for sweets, but my body doesn’t seem to process them the same way. When I was a teenager I could eat whatever I wanted, but my mid-20’s have proven a different fate. I’ve always been fairly active, but as many of you know, maintaining your ideal body weight gets a little tougher with age. Part of my regular weight maintenance included the use of protein powder. If you find the right brand, it’s delicious and nutritious. It also gives you several high protein baking alternatives you likely never considered before.

Since I’m not one to forego my favourite foods, I’ve come up with a few wiley alternatives. One of these is my delicious protein cookies. Besides being a sweet-eater, I’m also gluten free so this is a Celiac friendly recipe as well.

To make my tasty protein powder cookies you will need the following:

- 2 scoops of Protein Powder - I use Gold Standard Whey in Double Rich Chocolate
- 1 cup Quinoa Flour
- 2 tablespoons Natural Peanut Butter
- 1/2 cup Unsweetened Chocolate Chips (or your favourite dried berry)
- enough Unsweetened Almond Milk to moisten your mixture

Step 1 - Start by mixing all of your ingredients together in a bowl. Make sure you work out any clumps.

Step 2 - Lightly grease a baking sheet. I like to use coconut oil because it smells delicious and is healthier than your usual butter or lard grease. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Step 3 - Place one inch balls of dough onto your baking sheet and place in oven for 12-15 minutes. Stick them with  toothpick to make sure they are fully cooked. If they aren’t quite finished you will notice gooey cookie dough on the tooth pick. If this happens, pop them back in for 3-5 minutes. Monitor them closely though; you don’t want them to burn. Once done, let cool then enjoy!

If Almond Milk isn’t your number one choice, try mashing up a banana instead. The banana will provide just as much moisture as the almond milk, but with the added benefit of potassium.

Since many people don’t have quinoa flour on hand, if you aren’t Celiac feel free to alternate with 1/2 cup all-purpose flour and 1/2 cup rolled oats. This will add a punch of fiber, yet still taste delicious.

Don’t let your sweet tooth get the best of your waistline. Try this super simple recipe and enjoy a chocolatey treat without the guilt!

Thank you so much, Sabrina, for sharing your recipe and wisdom with us! I love the banana idea; definitely going to try it out. With a baby that's starting to eat everything Zach and I eat, I'm constantly on the hunt for recipes and foods that Bear will love but are also healthy. This is perfect!

Hope you have a fantastic week, friends!

Our Week in Pictures

I say this constantly, but time seriously does seem to fly by even faster with a baby. It's heartbreaking! Every time I upload pictures I sit here thinking, "what has happened to my squishy little baby"? He's still squishy, but he's not so little anymore :'(. K, moving on before tears are shed and things get emotionally outta control.

This week's been a fun one! Lots of playdates and fun with friends.

Bear & Leo played hard at My Gym

Look out Tiger, here comes Bear!

We were at the post office 4 out of 5 days this week. Logs 'n Lace has been busy and we're loving it! A big thank you to those that have been such sweet supporters!

My friend, April, introduced me to this and I can't get enough. Zero calories and really yummy!

One of the benefits of having a woodworking husband- really awesome cake stands for Bear's first birthday!

Jorts are only socially acceptable for a few more years. Bear's taking advantage.

This hangs in our stairway and I never tire of reading it. Dr. Seuss knew his stuff.

It's a good thing Zach never looks at this blog because he would KILL me. I needed a headband model yesterday and this little boy wasn't having much of it. Luckily I have a beautiful baby girl lined up to give Bear a (permanent) break. Aside from the good laugh you're getting....did you notice that he's independently standing?! Big baby!

Four new baby hats were purchased this week. Obsessed much? How could we not be? Thanks, Janie & Jack!

Here, Teddy, let me help you stretch. (absolute favorite jammies! post on these and other fall favorites coming soon)

Hope your weekend is amazing!!
p.s. Sunday is the first official day of FALL! Totally getting a pumpkin spice latte. And possibly lighting a candy corn scented candle....in the 95 degree Houston weather. We like to pretend around here.

Happy almost Autumn!

Plant Love

This post is totally random and you'll probably wonder why in the world I chose to post on this topic. You see, over the last year I've had this sudden obsession with plants. Not real ones, mind you. Fake, please-don't-make-me-water-you, plants. Mostly from IKEA. Because IKEA is the best place ever.

There's just something about a little green plant that makes a room feel warmer. Homier (is this a word?). More inviting.

Silk hydrangeas in a Logs 'n Lace vase...painting also by Zach. One of my favorites!

berries in the living room

Originally I thought plants in a nursery would feel stuffy, but they don't at all. They give it a warm, calming vibe. Please excuse the chubby into-everything baby.

favorite spot to sit and read a good book
Please excuse the poor quality iPhone photos!

We have lots more scattered around the house...succulents in window sills, pink roses on guest bedroom nightstands, and pretty white unidentified blooms in the sitting room (all of which are silk). Most of what you see above is either from Target or IKEA; no need to spend a lot to make a big impact!

Do you love plants? Are you a greenery hoarder like myself? Do tell!

Happy Hump Day! (can't say that without thinking of the commercial now)

Weekend in Review

This weekend was fast and fun. A whirlwind of being "on the go", but we also took time to take it easy and enjoy the quiet of our home Sunday evening. That's our favorite :).

Saturday morning we got up early and headed to College Station for the highly anticipated Texas A&M vs. Alabama game. The Aggies didn't win, but it was a great game!

Zach's mom drove 5 1/2 hours just to watch Bear for us; thank you, Lisa!! He didn't take a single nap during the 6 hours we were gone, but was supposedly "an angel". Hmmm. Give Grammy a break next time, Bear!

praying for the Ags (they needed it)

Bear's first birthday crown came in the mail on Saturday; we tried it on him and it's hilarious. So cute! Find it here.

Sunday afternoon we went to Bear's cousin's 3rd birthday party. The boys had fun swimming; it was such a nice day!

Zach's mom also painted these Winnie the Pooh canvases for Bear's playroom. We love them! I asked her to paint something with "vintage Pooh" feel and some of our favorite sayings. I'd say she delivered!

Hope your weekend was a great one! Next Sunday is the official start of fall and we are ready in HOT Houston! Bring on the cooler weather and pumpkin spice lattes :).
