Home

It feels so good to be home with our Baby Bear. We had to stay an extra night in the hospital because my temperature was high during delivery (more on that in the birth story coming soon!)...so coming home with our boy was all the more sweet.

A few scenes as of late...

Happy Friday, friends! Hope your weekend is full of blessings.

Post-Maternity Style: The Mommy in Me

It's been eleven days since Mr. Bear was born (STOP flying by, time!) and Zach and I are still hard-core adjusting to our new life as three. Sleep is cause for newfound euphoria and mealtime is completely dependent on when Bear wants to eat, not us. We wouldn't change a thing, though, and are soaking up all the "firsts" we're experiencing daily with our little guy.

My Momma is here helping us out and suggested I do a fashion post. While I still feel pretty run down and recovery has been rough (one word-episiotomy), it does feel pretty good to slip on the skinny jeans again for the first time in months and embrace my inner Mommy. Nursing calls for button-up shirts and I wouldn't dream of wearing heels at this point, so flats are a must. Comfy yet put-together seems to be the way to go for mommyhood....but don't you worry, I'm still spending most days in a track suit :).
 jeans:F21, blouse:J Crew, watch:Kohls, necklace:Anthropologie (gift), flats:Target

I've been a little behind in the world of fashion lately...what styles are you currently loving?

Easy DIY Hospital Favors

As it neared time to meet our Little Man, I knew I wanted to do something special for the friends and family that would come meet Bear at the hospital. Most of our family had a seven hour drive (each way!), so we figured a goody bag full of treats would be the perfect take-home favor for our visitors.

Assembling was easy: After filling each bag with candy and cookies, Zach designed the tags (let me know if you'd like the printable!) and I hot glued them on the sacks. We punched holes for the ribbon, tied them up, and were done! My only regret is not putting them in a more sturdy box for transit as they got a little squished/wrinkled. Overall, though, everyone seemed to enjoy the goodies and we felt good giving back a little to all our sweet visitors.

Hope you are all having a blessed week!
p.s. Bear had his 10 day check up today and it went great...I'm one happy Momma :)

1 Week

Height: 21 3/4 inches (at birth)
Weight: 8 lb. 4 oz. (at birth)

You are such a blessing, little Bear. We are loving each and every minute we get to spend with your chubby cheeks and your button nose. You really love feeding time and usually go into a milk coma immediately after. Daddy is completely in love with you and you know just how to work him already...the pouty lip, the big blue-eyed stare down, a cute case of the hiccups. You have struggled with jaundice but it's getting better and hopefully we'll get a good report at your pediatrician visit on Wednesday. We love you, sweet boy, and are so thankful you're a happy, healthy little man.

A Quick Hello

Greetings from our Baby Bear...

~6 days new~

Zach's Mom and I rigged up a little newborn photo session yesterday; can't wait to share the rest of the pictures with you guys! It was an adventure...would you believe this sweet face was peeing all over his sheepskin rug while this picture was being taken? Our washer hasn't stopped running since we got home on Tuesday. Complaining aside, he's worth every last load.

Can't wait to share his birth story on here, too. Everything went really well; actually the recovery process has proved to be the toughest part for this Momma. Things are getting easier every day though, and we are loving this precious time with our little man.

I have MISSED you ladies! Gonna try my best to catch up on your blogs when I'm not catching up on some sleep. Hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving.

Bear is officially one week old today...pictures/update coming tomorrow!

Momma or Daddy?

Hi, y'all!
Still here, still very pregnant. Tomorrow is Tiny's due date and he doesn't seem to have any plans of coming early...he's stubborn like his Daddy! We have an induction scheduled for next Tuesday, November 20th, but are hoping Little Man will decide to come on his own before then. I'm walking like crazy but have walked 3-4 miles almost every day this entire pregnancy, so not sure walking will help get things going. Any tips on getting Baby down and out?

Last night I was looking through baby pictures of Z and started seeing a resemblance to Tiny's ultrasound photos....what do you guys think?

Or Momma, perhaps?
(Zach says I look like an alien in this picture, so I'm hoping there are no similarities)

Guess we'll know soon enough! I just can't wait to hold our Little Man. Carrying him around for nine months has been incredible but finally holding him in my arms will be the best feeling in the world.

Some of Z's family are on their way down to Houston now; things are starting to get exciting around these parts! Just playing the waiting game and praying for a healthy baby boy.

Happy weekend, ladies!

My Christmas Playlist & Holiday Happenings

Growing up in my family, Christmas traditions were huge. We had many special moments shared together year after year, and one of my favorites was the carol singing we did. And still do, actually! All during December, we would sit around the Christmas tree and sing carol after carol before bedtime. My Mom would often play the piano along with us and we'd sing all the classics, from Rudolph to Away in a Manger. Zach's not big on singing, but this is still a tradition that we plan on sharing with our own little family for years to come.

I compiled a list of my top ten very favorite Christmas 'jams' for you all
and I would love (seriously, LOVE) for you to share some of your top picks too. Nothing like hearing a heart-warming Christmas song for the first time!
In no particular order...

1. All I Want for Christmas is You- Mariah Carey
Often overplayed, yet still list-worthy. Best enjoyed while sliding across the living room floor in fuzzy socks, singing into a hairbrush.
2. It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas- Michael Buble
I tend to lean toward the classics, but Michael does this one so well. Plus, he looks really, really good while singing it.
3. White Christmas- Bing Crosby
No explanation necessary. Should be the official Christmas Anthem.
4. Marshmallow World- Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra
So good on so many levels; gotta love the Rat Pack. Lighthearted and silly, but also dangerously addicting. Beware: this can and will get stuck in your head for days.
5. Baby, It's Cold Outside- Lady Antebellum
Just the right amount of country while still staying true to the song's playful duet style. Probably my most-played so far this season.
6. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree- Brenda Lee
Rock it out while putting up the tree...putting up dishes...putting up laundry...basically while doing anything where dancing a little jig and singing entirely too loud can be involved.
7. Carol of the Bells- Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Not much into instrumentals, but this one is amazing. Heard it in concert a few years ago and almost busted both my eardrums.
8. Christmas in Killarney- Bing Crosby
My Dad's all-time favorite, so it needs to be on the list. Plus, it's ridiculously catchy.
9. Wonderful Christmas Time- Paul McCartney
Been obsessed with Sir Paul pretty much my entire life....been obsessed with this song almost as long.
10. Linus and Lucy- Vince Guaraldi
Anyone else a huge Charlie Brown Christmas fan? This is another one that'll make you do a little jig. Just don't watch The Weather Channel too much during the month of December...they wear this one out.

You can't download or buy this song, but you can enjoy it via youtube....
love me some JGL and Zooey!

Can't wait to hear some of your favorite Christmas jams!
A few pictures as of late...

I know everyone and their dogs are talking about holiday drinks at Starbucks, but I can't help it. There isn't anything better than a cup of Caramel Apple Spice on a chilly fall day.

Our tree is up! Not fully decorated yet, but up. 26 presents and counting.

Has anyone else seen the new Pringles flavors? This totally freaked Z out.

A big fat YES to sweats and slippers. After temperatures in the high 80's all last week, it's down to the 50's and 60's in Houston and we're loving it.

Mall decorated for Christmas= best time of the year.

a gift from our sweet cousins, Collin and Braylie

Zach started the thoughtful tradition of buying me a snow globe every Christmas; this is my favorite (from our first Christmas together).

No, we haven't forgotten about Thanksgiving...just trying to get things ready for Christmas before Tiny gets here and everything get cray-zay around these parts. Feeling extra thankful for our wonderful family and friends today; can't wait to see them all the next couple of months. This time of year is the best. Happy Holidays, friends!

Little Man's Nursery

Hi, friends! I've promised this post for weeks now and the day has finally come to reveal Little Man's nursery to you all. Hope you enjoy!

When brainstorming ideas for a nursery "theme", we wanted something different and unique yet simple and meaningful. I dreamed of the day we'd be able to sing lullabies to our Baby Boy and one my grandpa used to sing to my brothers and me stuck out:

Let's go riding on a cloud, where the angels play.
Where no teardrops are allowed, throw your cares away.

We decided to use these words as inspiration and create a space centered around dreams, wishes, and all things calming.

We found these globes at Michaels and wanted to incorporate them in the room somehow. I found the glass vase at Target and they fit perfectly inside.

I made the mobile a couple months ago to match Baby's bedding but ended up hanging it over the changing pad. We like how it brightens that corner of the room and will hopefully entertain Tiny during diaper changes.

All of the bedding was made by our close family friend, Ann Allen. She did an awesome job! The fabric came from JoAnns and Hobby Lobby. My grandma also sewed the pillows and gave Tiny the sweet sock monkey. More detailed bedding post here.

Zach designed the prints hanging over the crib; they are the lyrics to the song our Papaw Joe sang to my brothers and me. The wicker chair came from IKEA.

I found this basket/hamper at Home Goods; it's just right for holding all of Tiny's toys (as of now!).

The sheepskin rug was our first purchase for the room; we knew we wanted a soft post-nap play area. The six botanical prints were purchased at a gallery near our house in Old Town Spring.

The reading nook is probably my favorite part of the room. I can't wait to rock Baby and read story after story to him. The shadowbox on the wall holds Z's baby outfit and shoes, and the chalkboard came from IKEA. READ letter tutorial here. My incredibly talented husband made the tree trunk table...post on that here.

The glider/ottoman was a gift from my grandparents but the original cushion fabric was denim and didn't match the nursery at all. My mom had the cushions recovered in upholstery fabric from JoAnns and the chevron fabric is from Hobby Lobby. The baskets are from Home Goods and are perfect for holding books and stuffed animals.

Zach painted the picture over the dresser; I love how it brings together different colors in the room. We found the miniature piano at an auction, fell in love, and had to have it. Zach made the little bench to match.

The lamp is from World Market and the book was Tiny's first book, given to him by my parents.

The dresser was a Goodwill find that we fixed up a few months ago; post on that here. Initial letters from Michaels, changing pad cover from this Etsy shop.

Thank you for sticking with this long-winded post! If there's anything in the room I didn't explain or forgot to list where it came from, please feel free to ask. This room was such a labor of love...from the walls, to the bedding, to everything in between.

I've shared this before, but here's a quick B/A wall picture...
I'd say it's come a long way. Now all we need is Baby Boy and everything will be complete.

Currently working on a post to show you Little Man's closet; promise it won't be nearly as long!
Have a wonderful week!
