Closet Reveal

Happy Hump Day, friends! Hope you are all having a fabulous week. I'm going to preface this post by telling you that my closet is dedicated to my sweet husband. You see, we each have our own in the master bath, but mine is a tad bit bigger. He originally suggested the possibility of hanging a few shirts in one side of my closet and of course I agreed, but the more clothes I hung the more I realized that unfortunately (for Zach) this wasn't an option. I'm a female, afterall. We have three dressers and four other closets that he can take his pick from. But this Baby, she's all mine. Since he didn't get to share, all the paintings you see hanging were made by him so that everytime I walk in, I think of how beautifully creative he is. Good trade-off, right?

Ohhhh, the vulnerability I'm feeling right now. This is like opening up a small piece of my heart to you guys. Good thing you are all so kind, or else this would be just too much. It's not Kim Kardashian's closet, but I'd rather have a successful marriage than a successful closet any day.

Without further ado, let me explain to you the closet that's been put together (so far).

The way the bathroom is set up makes it really difficult to get a picture from the outside, so this is from the doorway looking in. I hope to eventually get all matching hangers, but for now this will have to do.

The racks are grouped into coats, blouses, t-shirts, and track suits up top...dresses, shirts, and pants on bottom.

We received two of these lovely iron key-holders as wedding gifts. One is hanging by the backdoor and one found it's home as a purse-holder in closet de Brittany.

Being the cheapskate that I am, I tried to be resourceful and use things we already had but couldn't find a place for. This little belt-holder is actually a picture stand. It sticks out from the wall far enough to hold plenty of belts, even the widest ones.
Told you it was dedicated to him.
Here's a breakdown of the top shelves. The bathing suit bucket is from Dollar Tree and the aqua baskets were $5 each at Lowes. The hat box was a gift from my grandma. Thanks Nana!
This scarf-hanger, my friends, has a story. I'm sure you can tell that it's actually a towel ring, but it works perfectly at it's new position. I was in Bed Bath & Beyond recently buying some of these bad boys for our bathrooms and picked up an extra one we didn't need. In my little-kid-on-Christmas-morning like way, I ripped it out of the packaging before I even realized we didn't need it. Since it was $12 (say what? for one of these thingies?) I was determined to give it a purpose. I think it likes it's new home.
Boots, heels, and flats all rest on the shelf in between top and bottom hanging clothes.
...and a few got "booted" to the floor.
Because there wasn't enough room to neatly display all my shoes, I decided to put them out in seasons. Which, in Houston, consists of summer (11 months of the year) and winter. It doesn't have a lid because I believe shoes, being much like people, need to breathe. This bin is perfect for rotating shoes that are only good during the warm months....
and cold months month.
This was also my first time attempting color-coordinating. It made me want to eat Skittles.
And one more look at the left side through the door. Thanks for visiting, y'all! Hope this has given you some cheap and simple ideas to organize your closet.
If you have any other suggestions or methods of organization you use, I would love to hear them!

Our First Christmas Card

I really get into Christmas cards. Back in college, I bought el cheapos at Dollar Tree the minute they hit the shelves (in early November), filled them out, and anxiously waited until December 1st to drop them in the mail. You get it; no-one wants to be the first overachiever of the season. But alas, here I am again. We've had these since November, patiently (or not so patiently) stalling to send them out. Last Thursday I took the plunge. Feeling so much better now. ps- Sorry these pictures are so dark! Still figuring out the new camera. I love it but it doesn't much like me.
Please excuse my weak attempt at covering up addresses....
Michaels had stamp sets on sale for $4.99 (ten stamps, two ink pads, AND two glitter pens!) at the end of November, so I snatched one up and used the stamps on the seal of our envelopes.
Yes, we are not "wishing", but rather "wising" you festive love and holiday kisses. If I hadn't mentioned it, bet you would've been none the wiser. Pun totally intended.

We also filled out cards to send to the troops this year, which is quickly becoming a tradition that we value very much. They are done collecting for Christmas '11, but any you send here between now and the end of next November will be sent for Christmas 2012. Please, please take part in this amazing operation. Our heroes deserve love and appreciation at Christmastime and all year through.

Chocolate & Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

I had you at Bisquick, didn't I? Stuff is legit. I love it so much, in fact, that I once finished off the box like you finish off a box of cereal or a bag of chips...head cocked back, pouring remains down the throat. Lovely image, eh? (would not recommend trying this)

Z requested chocolate chip cookies the other night and when I found this recipe on Cooks.com I knew it was "the one". The peanut butter chips were a nice little surprise that added the perfect this tastes kinda like a Reese's cup touch.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
2 c. buttermillk baking mix (Bisquick or Jiffy)
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. Reese's peanut butter chips

Directions:
Heat oven to 375. Mix butter, sugar, and egg together. Stir in baking mix, chocolate and peanut butter chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake about 10 minutes or until starting to brown.
*Makes 3 dozen

Versatile Blogger Award

Pretty sure the last award I received was a perfect attendance ribbon in high school. Don't get me wrong, that was totally thrilling...but not quite as much as making Shannon's list on her great blog, Imperfectly Inspired.

Now I get to do three things:
1. Thank the person who gave me this award.
2. Tell you 7 things about myself.
3. Pass it on to 15 other people and let them know they've been awarded.
So, Miss Shannon, thank you! It is a huge honor to be mentioned alongside such amazing blogs. This is way better than getting a perfect attendance ribbon. The rest of you must go check out Imperfectly Inspired. You're sure to find fabulous craft, food, and just-plain-life inspiration.

Telling 7 things about myself isn't the easiest thing to do, and I tend to get really random when doing things like this, but I'll give it a try:

1. I received this award about, oh, a month or so ago...which I guess makes me a bit of a procrastinator.

2. Zach and I are both from little towns in West Texas, 8 miles apart. We never knew each other growing up; proof that it's all in God's timing.
3. I love Christmas. Big time. Started listening to my Bing Crosby Christmas album in August.

4. Between my husband and me, we have had seven major knee injuries. He's had 4 surgeries on the same knee! :(
5. I eat candy every day. I also get cavities every few months.

6. My Momma is the best Momma.

7. The coolest job I ever had was working in Internal Ticketing for the Sundance Film Festival.

And the fun part...I now get to name 15 wonderful blogs for you to go visit!

Master Bedroom Reveal

Our master bedroom is most definitely a work in progress. A big work in progress. I'm mainly documenting our house right now so that we'll have "before" pictures to put with our "after" pictures in the future (hopefully semi-near future!). We still have lots of art/wall hangings that are waiting to be hung; we just need to make up our minds on where to put them.

My favorite part of the room is the large window seat and I would love to eventually sew a cushion for it for rainy, reading days. Doesn't that sound lovely? Zach would most certainly never use it, especially since there's a tv in front of our couch.

a wedding poem from my grandpa :)
As you can tell, our built-in needs some "in". We're working on it...
We plan on mounting this tv soon too...
So, friends, what do you think? I know it could probably use some more color but the other rooms in our house have so much brightness going on (wait 'til you see our kitchen) that I kindof like it being calm and neutral. We also have more pretty pillows for the bed that decided to play hooky from the picture session. Hope everyone is having a great week!
